November 30 - Advent-Mindedness begins

Though Advent (literally “arrival”) has been observed for centuries as a time to contemplate Christ’s birth, often this holy season four weeks in length gets lost in the December shuffle of red nosed reindeer and jingle bells. But not at Christ Church! Advent- Mindedness is our theme and our goal as we sing the hauntingly beautiful hymns of Advent, make and take Advent wreaths, gather for a quiet evening of homemade chili and reading of the Gospel of Mark, ponder our ANGEL TREE gifts and much, much more. Advent begins this year on Sunday, November 30 which also marks the beginning of the new church year. Join us as “we prepare Him room.”

Longest Night Service

Sunday, December 21 - 4:00 p.m.

We sing, "It's the most wonderful time of the year," but for many people the Christmas season is anything but. The Christmas season is an extraordinarily difficult time for some of us. We may look up and realize that our lives during this season are marked more by broken hearts and shattered spirits than by holiday joy.

The Longest Night Service, known in some places as a Blue Christmas Service, is for all who are sad, lonely, hurting, or suffering from loss of any kind. In this service we will offer our pain to God and seek comfort in the Christmas message with opportunities to light a memorial candle and participate in Holy Communion. With simple hymns, prayers, readings and scripture, participants are invited to come together, be where they are, and feel what they feel, knowing that in the midst of their struggles, they are not alone. All are welcome.

Celebrating God's Abundance at Christ Church

My church is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is.

It will be friendly, if I am.

Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them.

It will do great work, if I work.

It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver.

It will bring other people into its worship and fellowship, if I invite them.

It will be a church of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and a church with a noble spirit,

if I who make it what it is, am filled with these same things.

Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my church to be.
